NASCar
As part of the ONR-funded 'Northern Arabian Sea Circulation—autonomous research (NASCar)' DRI, spray gliders surveyed from the northern edge of the Mascarene Plateau, crossing the equator repeatedly, then surveyed southward back toward the Seychelles prior to recovery.
One glider mission was conducted in each of 2017 and 2018. Missions were timed to capture the onset of the southwest (northern hemisphere summer) monsoon at the equator. Additional plots of these data are available at http://gliders.whoi.edu
Time Span
MAR 2017 - JUN 2018
Observations
Temperature, Salinity, Doppler Velocity, Acoustic Backscatter, Depth-Averaged Velocity
- Region: Western Equatorial Indian Ocean
- PI: Robert E. Todd
- Funded by: Office of Naval Research
Project Dataset Files
Cleaned, post-processed and vertically binned to meet user needs
Project Dataset Processing
- Averaged to 10-m vertical bins
- Bins improve ease of use
- Bins allow for easy integration of ADCP acoustic backscatter and velocity data
- Filtered using QC flags
- Only high-quality data are represented in each bin
