attribute NC_GLOBAL summary String This is a comprehensive collection of science-quality observational data collected by Spray underwater gliders from 2005-Present. While most of the glider missions are part of the California Underwater Glider Network there are also many missions in the Altantic, Mediterranean, Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific basin. Data in this collection should be used over the near real time data once this quality controlled dataset is available, typically a few months after a glider is recovered. The near-real-time data are not as complete or accurate as this product due to data telemetry limitations and the nature of near-real-time data dissemination. Spray glider missions are post-processed after a mission is complete resulting in this high-quality dataset. This high-resolution, delayed mode product represents the highest quality most complete data record for Spray missions. Data from these missions are available in other forms as well, the near-real-time data product offers preliminary data and fills the gap between this product and the present. An easier to use binned data product is available for deployments within the California Underwater Glider Network (CUGN). Climatology data products are available for the longest running transects in the CUGN. See the Spray Glider data website (https://spraydata.ucsd.edu) for more information.

attribute precise_lon_qc actual_range double 1.0, 1.0
attribute precise_lon_qc comment String Use caution with these subsurface position values, the deviation from actual position may be several hundreds of meters! Use the gps position variables for highly accurate positions at the surface. These are estimations and are a dead reckoning using the GPS positions at dive start and end, and the gliders estimated velocity. The calculation methods are described in: "Rudnick, D. L., Sherman, J. T., & Wu, A. P. (2018). Depth-average velocity from Spray underwater gliders. Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic Technology, (2018), 35, 1665-1673; doi: https://doi.org/10.1175/JTECH-D-17-0200.1". The accuracy attribute reflects an accuracy of approximately +/-800m (0.09 ° Lon)1=Good/Pass, 2=Not Evaluated, 3=Questionable, Suspect or of High Interest, 4=Fail/Bad, 9=Missing Data. The value is an estimate of the glider location at the midpoint of the underwater segment. It differs from the longitude variable which is the estimate of the mid-point of the profile which is at 3/4 of the underwater segment. The value is interpolated to provide an estimate of the mid-point of the entire underwater segment, which may consist of 1 or more dives. Calculated using surface GPS positions at the starta nd end of the dive. Where, lon_uv = gps_start_lon + 0.5 * (gps_end_lon - gps_start_lon);
